New Spring Course Available! - One Credit MLAW Service Learning Lab -the Mlaw Migrant Assistance Program (MMAP)
MMAP seeks to have students engage with the growing number of refugee and immigration families in the PG-County area, many of whom are recent arrivals from Afghanistan. MMAP will function in collaboration with two neighboring not for profit organizations, Solutions in Hometown Connections (SHC), and Lutheran Social Services (LSS). Each organization has years of experience helping refugees to resettle in the area, and grow accustomed to living in the U.S. and more specifically in the greater DC region. The program is spearheaded by Dr. Robert Koulish.
Last Wednesday, LSS and SHC visited Dr. Koulish's class to discuss opportunities for students interested in MMAP. Presley Dawson, the MMAP coordinator, JLT alum, and current UMD undergrad, shares the highlights of that conversation as well as the ways students can help their community this semester. Check out what she had to say on JLT's Instagram here.
