Dr. Spivey is well known for his law-focused courses. He teaches courses in public law including Introduction to law; American Constitutionalism I; American Constitutionalism II (Civil Rights and Civil Liberties) and Current Issues in the Supreme Court (a study of the Roberts Court.) 

Dr. Spivey is interested in the role of the courts in the culture wars and wrote his dissertation on: Culture Warriors Go to Court: The Supreme Court and the Culture Wars.
